Do you know where you are going?

I am learning more and more as I travel this journey of life – that having a destination in mind is important and needed, otherwise like many people we may end up in an unfamiliar place, and hoovering there for an unexpected amount of time.   Why?  Because we failed at our First Attempt In Learning.

We must write down our goals, share them with people who will help us to remain accountable for our progress, and who will encourage us when we get distracted on the course.  Our vision of the future for ourselves, and the choices we make to get there are our responsibility.  Yes, we may not have had the best parents/or lack of.  We may have had an awful, lonely start, but today, right where we are; we have the power to change the course.  We have the power to make a different decision- to be, do, act and live better.  NO, it is not easy, it is not simple, IT IS a task, a hard task, an unfamiliar new behavior.  But one thing I can tell you – if you do not get caught up on the moments of inadequacy, and you keep trying every day, that a new you will flourish.  You will find a strength that has been buried over the years affecting your perception of yourself and the situations around us.  You will find a new you – a you that has existed all along under the layers of hurt, confusion, mistrust, abuse, and fear.  The new you, that is reshaped, changed, and focused.  The you that knows it takes hard work, discipline and persistence to make a difference.

Join me in mapping out our new direction, which we find in the place of sight that we cannot see, and the intuition that we cannot touch.  Dream big and make no mistake that your vision is obtainable – we have to seek it – It is there waiting just for us.

What Do You Believe?

Gosh, there is so much on the news today.  I am not sure I can even call it news.  It is a one sided slant on the reality that one person sees through their lenses, how different is that than racism I wonder.  There are discussions about diseases that kill, crimes that are better left not repeated, and the overwhelming coached reality shows that have taken over the airwaves.  With all this negativity around us, do you believe there is anything good going on in the world?

I find myself shifting through the paper, the blogs, the tweets, and FB postings wondering what percent of it is real.  Then there is “really did someone just say or do that, and did they really think it was OK?”  Which always brings a smile to my face, because I think of my bestie (my best friend), who says “someone approved that” or “the person who writes for them is upset they went off script.”

Do you believe there are just as many, if not more inspirational things going on in the world?

For me there is this alarming sense that a large percentage of individuals are being influenced by the pictures painted by the artistry of music, film making, and the deception of the news.  Far removed is the hunger to investigate the story to uncover the facts, but in lieu, false accusations are passed along at such a rapid pace that one may find it hard to even find the beginning of the tale.  So the next time someone tells you something and you think to believe it or repeat it here are some things to ponder: (1) Consider the source, (2) Research the facts, (3) and draw your own conclusion based on your findings.

Let us avoid spreading propaganda, and instead be liberators to one another.  Proving that there are positive, inspiring, and captivating stories of individuals defying the odds and contributing to a better tomorrow all around us.  Find the story and share it.  Let us set the airwaves for positivity in 2016!

Rhythm

The Oxford Dictionary defines rhythm as “a regularly recurring sequence of events, actions, or processes.”  Often times we move to the music we hear as the sounds of our favorite lyricists reaches our subconscious, and without thought we begin to move effortlessly.  Then there are times when the music changes, the D.J. switches tracks, or someone blows a fuse, and we fall out of rhythm.
What happens when it’s not the music being pushed through a speaker, but instead it is the occurrences in life causing us to lose our rhythm?  When you cannot simply talk to the D.J. or replace the fuse, what do you do that helps you get back in step?  How do you find your rhythm, again?
I have found myself many times out of step with the sequence of events going on in my life.  When I recognize that I am no longer moving to the right beat, I have needed to search within me for the ear to hear the beat of life, in an attempt to reorder my steps.  There is something about being still and quiet that helps me to concentrate, evaluate and recognize the tune playing in my life.  You become aware of the rhythm that exists, which in turn effortlessly will entice you to walk and talk in rhythm with the beat, or it will infuse you to change from the tune that you currently move to.

You know, like the first one who recognizes the beat of the next song playing, what step to be on, or its ones cue to move off the dance floor.  Either of the positions you take require awareness for you to hear the tune.

If you have been struggling with your rhythm, turn down the voices around you, step away from the noise of busyness, and get yourself to a place where there is silence, and find that tune in your heart that inspires, uplifts, and drives you to the next level.
So long as you have breath it is never too late to dance to the sounds that are in sync with your heart.  Let us dance effortlessly.

A Letter to My Children

Since the moment I laid eyes on you, I realized that I was given the most dutiful responsibilities.  I was given the gift of life, and the duties of watching over it, with care, nurture, and protection.  My responsibilities are to teach you, while providing you nourishment physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.  It is the informative years that I am to teach you manners, respect, and self-value as I lay the foundation for the development of your character.  Simultaneously, you are helping to stretch me, to challenge me, and to make me more aware of my responsibilities and capabilities
I am writing you this letter, because although you may not be mine by birth, you are mine because you are the future.  You are the generation of life for the future and you are expected to achieve greater things than your forefathers.  But there is an important thing you need to know.   You need to know that there are going to be times when your skies will seem dark, and there are times when they will be as bright as the moon on a clear dark night, when it illuminates the earth below it.  You should also know that there will be people who love you and will support and challenge your growth.  Others will be envious of you.  The envious ones will be a stumbling block or an attendant at your arena in life, watching, judging, and waiting for your performance to fail.  Do not be discouraged nor afraid, because you were born with all the things you need to overcome, but first you must believe!
You have to know that everything you have come against, everything that will come your way, will all be a test of your endurance, and a contributing source to your strength and victories.  You must believe that you are a winner, as your perception of yourself is what will shape your vision on life.  The shape of your vision will directly affect how you see the obstacles that come your way, and more importantly how you respond and there effect on you.
Do not get caught up in the drama of envy, tangled in the web of deceit, or trapped by jealousy.  Your gifts are unique to you, and ONLY YOU can put them to work for the better of mankind.  You have something that the world needs and I need you to live out your full potential so everyone can see it.  Be patient with yourself and others, because life is a life-long process.  Those who have been victors know that they are not in a race with anyone, and lean on their gifts for wings to soar.  Which is exactly what I want you to do!  Flap your wings furiously and fly my eagles.  Soar to new levels and do not be afraid, because you are never alone.
What we do not tell you as parents is that we too stumbled.  We are adults who started similar to yourselves, and if we did not, we know someone who has.  If I can leave you with anything…remember that no one ever born into this life dreams of being homeless, on drugs, or selling themselves for a living.  It is the failure to take advantage of the opportunities you have that allows life to make the choice for you.
Remember you are the future and YOU Do Make a Difference!
